Truckin', Visitin' & Eatin'

August 1, 2010 –

Sometimes, just by the nature of the universe, things (such as days in someone’s life) can seem inherently unequal even when in reality they are both really great. It will be hard to match the kid’s excitement and energy from the Weird Al concert, but today was still a really cool day in a mellower, hang-out with family kind of way.

We checked out of the hotel this morning and went to church in Redmond – a very friendly congregation, just in case anybody ever finds themselves in Redmond, Oregon on a Sunday morning. We had about a four-hour drive back to my dad’s house on the coast, but my great uncle Marvin and great-aunt Linda live almost exactly half way in between. We stopped in to see them, and we had a really nice visit. Marvin is my grandmother’s youngest brother, and we used to see him somewhat regularly when we visited Granny. She passed away a few years ago so it was really nice to see Marvin and Linda again.

The kids had fun checking out their garden and eating barbequed hamburgers. It was a really nice visit. Afterward, we drove the rest of the way to Dad and Deb’s house and got to hang out with them and catch up. No Weird Al concerts, but the day was probably an even more important part of a family vacation.

Unfortunately, I realize now that since we were just hanging out and visiting, I neglected to take any pictures. Maybe once I get home, I can find an old picture of Granny and Marvin that I can post.
